Cassidy Gearhart is a Los Angeles-based film editor whose work encompasses both raw documentary emotion and high end commercial precision. His aesthetics are drawn from a deep well of creative interests which have their roots in the DIY cultures he immersed himself in as a teenager: hardcore-punk, skateboarding and hip hop.
Making fanzines, board graphics, shooting photos and experimental films naturally led to deeper immersions into graphic design and film. It felt natural to leap frog from Eyes on the Prize to David Lynch to Sidney Lumet; from Bauhaus to Fluxus to Reid Miles; creative expression was all about constructing a thesis, an expression of a unique world, be it political, gritty, or just a hazy dreamscape.
His film career began with "Open Transport," an hour long doc on the late 90's independent hip hop scene that he co-directed and edited. This lead to a job at B.E.T. as an in-house broadcast designer/editor. A six year stretch freelancing in NYC followed, crafting motion graphics and creative directing at studios like Freestyle Collective, Shilo, and Eyeball. His work featured in publications like Stash, Motionographer and Shoot online, festivals like Res Fest, and honored with numerous Promax/BDA awards.

The motion graphic work lead back to documentary work. He cut the viral hot rod documentary The Real Thing for Director Julian King and was one of the editors on the emmy-nominated "Starved for Attention" series for Doctors Without Borders. Commercial work followed as well with spots for brands like Toyota, GE, Ford, Nike, AT&T, Uber, Adult Swim, Cadillac, Under Armour and Lincoln.
Working with directors like André Stringer, Jeremiah Zagar, Julian King, Academy award winner Ross Kauffman and Peabody award winner Kim A. Snyder he continues to find bridges and overlap between the documentary and commercial worlds. His most recent work includes episodes of the ROKU doc series The Fix, narrated by Samuel L. Jackson and based on Johan Hari's book Chasing the Scream as well as the soon to be released narrative short Absorber for director Noah Conopask.
